2019 Border BioBlitz

Thanks to the many of you who joined us!

The 2019 Border BioBlitz took place over the first weekend of March 2019 along the U.S. - Mexico border. Observation groups ran from the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego through the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Texas. The Nat, ran observation areas and helped facilitate a Marine survey at Border Field State Park on Saturday, March 2. The goal of this binational effort is to record as many wild plants and animals as possible along each side of the U.S.-Mexico border, using iNaturalist. Thanks to the efforts of over 1,000 citizen scientists, we were able to record 2,517 different species. Final results help inform conservation efforts in our border region.

The Border BioBlitz is made possible thanks to partnerships with Botanical Community Development Initiatives, Next Generation Sonoran Desert Researchers, and citizen scientists like you.

What is a BioBlitz?

A BioBlitz is a 24-hour effort to document as many species of wild plants and animals in a given area at a time. Both scientists and citizen scientists join in on the fun collectively gallivanting around in search of birds, mammals, spiders, insects, plants, reptiles, amphibians and more!
