Nature meets technology in this interactive exploration of Balboa Park.  Step into the role of scientist as you collect plant and animal observations for museum scientists. Peek behind the scenes at our research collections. At the end of the week, we’ll share our findings, giving friends and family a chance to see what we have discovered.

Exhibit Makers

Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26, 2019

Learn what it takes to develop, design, and build an exhibit component at The Nat. Spend the week as an exhibit developer/designer/builder in this specialty camp for incoming 6th to 8th graders. We’ll visit the museum’s exhibitions to gain inspiration and ideas. Then you and your fellow campers will work as a team to build an exhibit that will serve an as introduction to the opening of a new Museum exhibition opening in November 2019.  The week will culminate in a gallery opening, giving you a chance to share your creation with friends and family.

Digital Storytelling

Monday, August 5 through Friday, August 9, 2019

We’re mixing technology with science and storytelling in this middle school camp experience. Learn how digital devices like smartphones and tablets are changing the way people can interact with nature. We’ll use iPads to learn the basics of digital storytelling, and then you and your fellow campers will dig into our collections and the beautiful surroundings of Balboa Park to create stories about the Museum. The week will end with a film festival of your stories shown in The Nat’s giant screen theater, giving your friends and family a chance to see your masterpiece.
