Ways to Give

There are many ways to support The Nat. Choose the option that works best for you.
  1. Make a quick and secure gift online.
  2. Mail a check to The Nat at P.O. Box 121390 San Diego, CA 92112
You can also make a gift from your donor-advised fund, appreciated securities, or through a qualified charitable distribution from your IRA. Learn more below or call 619.255.0172.

Making a gift from your Donor Advised Fund

A donor-advised fund (DAF) can be a simple and effective way to support The Nat. You can recommend a grant directly through your DAF provider in the amount you choose.
While searching in your DAF database, use The Nat's employer identification number (EIN), 95-1643375 to ensure your gift is directed to the Museum.
DAF distributions can support a variety of Museum initiatives, with some restrictions. Because you received the charitable deduction when you contributed to your DAF, grants cannot provide goods or services in return. For instance, a DAF cannot be used for membership or to fulfill existing pledges.
If you have questions about what you can do with your donor-advised fund, please call us at 619.255.0172.

Putting stock in nature

A gift of appreciated stock or other securities can be a tax-efficient way to support The Nat.
How It Works
  1. Transfer your securities to The Nat. Publicly traded stocks, bonds, and mutual fund shares can be transferred directly from your brokerage, trust company, or bank account through a DTC transfer.
  2. The Nat sells the securities. The proceeds from your gift support the Museum and our work to conserve nature through science and discovery.
Planning a stock gift? Please contact Eowyn Bates at 619.255.0172 or ebates@sdnhm.org before initiating your transfer. We'll provide the information you need and alert our broker to the incoming gift so we can identify and acknowledge your contribution.

Making a qualified charitable distribution from your IRA

If you are 70½ years or older, you may be able to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to The Nat. In 2026, individuals may make up to $111,000 in charitable distributions.
A QCD is sent directly from your IRA to The Nat and generally is not included in taxable income. If you are required to take a required minimum distribution (RMD), your QCD can count toward all or part of that amount for the year.
To make a qualified charitable distribution, ask your IRA custodian to send your gift directly to The Nat.
