Mark Orozco joined the San Diego Natural History Museum in March 2018 and serves as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Operations Officer (COO). Orozco comes to the flagship Balboa Park museum with more than 20 years’ of diversified experience in both the public and private sectors. As a member of the leadership team, his primary responsibility includes oversight of the Museum’s strategic financial and operational planning, ensuring the alignment of the organization’s resources with its mission and long-term strategic initiatives.
Before joining the Museum, Orozco served as a CFO and strategic operations advisor with Bridgepoint Consulting, LLC. There, he assisted entrepreneurial, private-equity backed organizations at varied stages of the business lifecycle with developing and setting strategy, driving growth and profitability, and optimizing business cash flow. He was heavily involved in financial planning and analysis, business development, regulatory and grants compliance, board and staff development, exit strategy planning, and accounting and audit compliance.
Orozco has held key leadership roles during the course of his career within varied industries, including biotechnology, life science R&D, consumer products and services, distilleries, social media marketing, and SAAS-based applications. He began his professional career in public accounting as an auditor and tax specialist for Ernst & Young, LLP, in San Diego.
A native of Southern California, Orozco learned a love of the outdoors from his father, who worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, as well as time spent on his family’s ranch. He currently serves on the board of directors for the National Scleroderma Foundation, a federally qualified non-profit dedicated to serving the needs of the scleroderma community. He is actively involved in the Foundation’s Finance and Business Development Committees.
Orozco holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of San Diego and an Executive MBA from San Diego State University.
