Natural Partners: The Nature of the Partnership
The
San Diego Natural History Museum provides a window on the natural world
of our region through exhibits, research, and science education. We
are the leading natural science center focused on the region that stretches
from the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula north to Point Conception
near Santa Barbara, and from the deep ocean trenches of the Pacific
coast east to the San Andreas Fault. The largest number of endangered
species and the greatest biodiversity in North America are found in
this extraordinary region.
What
does a great natural history museum mean to those who live and work
here? It means that in addition to understanding the diverse
plant and animal life of our region, there is an institution which advances
science-based discussion of the numerous challenges and tough questions
regarding growth and conservation. The Museum strives to be a vital
source of information on our region, a forum for education and discussion
of its most pressing issues, and a place where children can see, hear,
and feel the beauty of our environment and learn how they can help protect
it for the future.
Southern
California represents one of the most populous regions of the United
States; the northern cities of Baja California represent the fastest
growing region of Mexico. The future requires a delicate balance between
economic growth and strength, and the judicious protection and preservation
of the natural environment. Corporations can play a critical role in this discussion.
Your support of the Museum's missionto interpret our region through
research and exhibitions while promoting education and public awareness
of natural resource issueswill enhance the quality of life for
all citizens. |
