The mighty oak tree has long symbolized strength and longevity. The presence of many oaks is needed to create the forest environ that will perpetuate the oak forest for centuries.

The Live Oaks Society exists to create a forest of support that will last in perpetuity for the San Diego Natural History Museum. As a single oak tree is not a forest: no single person is expected to make a magical gift to endow our future. As a single tree contributes to the canopy of a great forest, each person sharing what they can contributes to our protective canopy, an endowment.

To become a member of the Live Oaks Society requires only a written or verbal notice of a commitment from your estate. Membership is not dependent on the value of what you intend to give. Membership is based only on caring enough to make a commitment.

You may remain anonymous in making your commitment or allow us to place your name on our Live Oaks Society honor roll to encourage others by your example. Large or small commitment, anonymous or named as a Society member, we only request to know of your intention so we may thank you. Anonymous gifts are delightful surprises and gratefully received, but they leave a sense of loss of never knowing the caring stranger.

Live Oaks Society Membership Includes:

  • Your name or anonymous designation on the Live Oaks Society membership roll
  • Recognition on our Live Oaks Society wall of honor
  • The gratefulness of the Museum membership, volunteers, scientists, staff, leadership, board and visitors
  • A Live Oaks Society annual reception and other events so we may thank you over and over again
  • The creation of your oral history for future generations to learn of your meaningful commitment to the Museum
  • A.R. Valentien limited edition print exclusively for Live Oaks Society members
