AT THE MUSEUM

Bring your students to explore the Museum and the natural history of southern California and beyond. Whether you participate in a self-guided visit, view a film, join our Docents for an in-gallery class, or enroll in one of our Museum science workshops, you are sure to enjoy an engaging experience. Registration is required for all programs. See descriptions below for details.

Meet Matt Burgess, a “volcanologist” who works for the U.S. Geological Survey and traveled the world studying volcanoes.Discover what scientists can learn about volcanic hazards through the historical (and prehistorical!) eruptions of Vesuvius. Then learn how similarly dangerous volcanoes may affect those living throughout Mexico and Latin America, the Pacific Northwest, and even right here in California. Includes admission to A Day in Pompeii.

Travel through time with docent guides in the Museum’s permanent exhibition, Fossil Mysteries. Discover extraordinary San Diego and Baja California through this spectacular collection of regional fossils, interactives and reproductions to scale of ancient species.

Science Workshops

Let us bring the Museum to your classroom! Presented by docents or museum instructors, these programs emphasize the natural history of the San Diego region and correlate with California Science Content Standards.
Mileage fee: schools more than 25 miles from the Museum will be charged an additional 50 cents per mile.

Fee: $180 (for two 1.5-hour programs); $80 for an additional class at the same location (same day, same room, same topic, limit three programs per day)
