Here are the results from San Diego’s first ever BioBlitz, sponsored by the San Diego Natural History Museum and held May 2–3, 2008, in Balboa Park. Over 50 scientists and volunteers scoured Balboa Park for 24 hours to discover the biodiversity that lives in the Park. These species do not include any plants supported by irrigation or horticultural practices within the Park, or any animals or plants introduced by the San Diego Zoo.
Please note that a final database of results, with images, is currently being compiled by Museum scientists and will be available online in a few weeks.
In addition to these results, the scientists from the Museum’s Paleontology Department discovered three previously unknown sites of fossils in the Park.
