Special Event Staff
The San Diego Natural History Museum has several part time openings for special events staff. The staff is responsible for insuring that the building and its collections are safely guarded during private evening events at the museum. Requires reliable and responsible individual who can exercise tact and diplomacy in interacting with clients, sponsors and vendors. Applicants must be able to work nights and weekends. Special Events Coordinator
The San Diego Natural History Museum seeks a special events coordinator to assist the director of special events with contracts, schedules, site inspections, client inquiries, opening galas, event timelines and diagrams, vendor contact, staff supervision for events and all duties associated with internal museum events and client events at the Museum. Also includes extensive work on the annual binational gala. Prefer experience with events, catering, non-profit gala’s and museums. Applicants must be able to work nights and weekends. Collections Care Assistant
San Diego Natural History Museum seeks a full-time professional for a grant funded position of Collections Care Assistant in the Department of Herpetology. Responsibilities include the maintenance, improvement, and use of the amphibian and reptile collection, data entry/editing of catalogue, and the supervision of volunteers. Successful candidate will have knowledge of collections care and taxonomy, with skills in project management, an attention to detail and accuracy, and proficiency in relevant computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Access, Specify 5.2, ArcGIS, and topographic maps). B.A./B.S. required. Candidates with a background and interest in herpetology preferred and museum collections conservation preferred.

Paleontological Field Manager
Position responsibilities include coordination of paleontological field activities (i.e., supervision of field monitors in prospecting for and collection of fossils and the recording of stratigraphic, taphonomic, geographic, and topographic data) and production of final project reports that summarize the methods and preliminary results of paleontological salvage activities. Other duties include generation of initial discovery letter reports for City, County, and/or State agency managers and generation of paleontological resource assessment technical reports. Opportunities also include paleontological field work in the Southern California region and working with the extensive fossil collections of the San Diego Natural History Museum.

Qualified candidates must have at least a B.S. Degree in Geology or Paleobiology; 2 to 3 years of relevant experience (especially sedimentary geology and paleontology); excellent supervisory/managerial, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; and a strong work ethic, intense drive, and initiative for quality and customer service. This position is a regular, full-time salaried position with a generous benefits package (e.g., full medical and 401K plan). Compensation will be based on individual qualifications and experience.

Custodian II

Blackbaud Database Administrator
The San Diego Natural History Museum is seeking a Blackbaud Database Administrator (BDA) to manage and monitor all Blackbaud systems software. The BDA will be the lead software administrator for Patron Edge and work directly with the three other Blackbaud lead software administrators (Raiser’s Edge, Patron Edge Online and Financial Edge). In addition, the BDA is responsible for writing Crystal Reports and working in SQL Server 2000. As well as a proficiency in the aforementioned software, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, knowledge and experience in information management, particularly as it applies to non-profit organizations, excellent communication, teaching and problem solving skills and have a strong attention to detail.
