Muse: San Diego Museum Murals

The San Diego Natural History Museum is participating in an exhibition called Muse: San Diego Museum Murals, which opens at the La Bodega Gallery in Barrio Logan on June 17. Put on by the San Diego Museum Council (SDMC), with lead art curator Danielle Deery, nine San Diego County museums have been paired with nine local mural artists to create original works that portray each museum’s mission and vision.

The SDMC generated this creative concept in an effort to bring the museum community together in an authentic way that celebrates Barrio Logan’s heritage and vibrancy—just beneath the Coronado Bridge is Chicano Park where you can find some of the most powerful and vibrant murals in California. These murals, which explore the important contributions made by Mexicans, Spaniards, and Mexican-Americans in our region, served as the inspiration for this project.

One artist has been teamed up with each museum. Muse participants include:

The grand opening will be held at La Bodega Gallery on June 17 from 5-11 PM. The exhibition is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 12-6 PM from June 17-30.

Muse is presented by the San Diego Museum Council with funding made possible by the City of San Diego Commission for Arts & Culture.
