HOME SCHOOL Days—New classes!

Please register early as capacity is limited. Online registration for Home School Days is now available: http://tickets.sdnhm.org. For the most engaging experience, register younger students (grades K-3) for the morning session. The afternoon session will serve older primary students (grades 4-6) who are prepared for more concentrated and attenuated tasks.

Location: Museum learning labs
Fee: $8 per student (includes Museum admission). Fee is due in advance; no refunds.
Days: Mondays
Time: 9:30-11 AM and 11:30 AM-1 PM



Fall Semester
Session 1
October 8
Morning:
Earth Watch 1—Flora and Fauna
Investigate plant and animal signs. Use observations to make inferences about the living parts of our natural environment.

Hummingbird drawingAfternoon:
Art and Science 1—Illustration at the Museum
Artists and scientists are keen observers and recorders. Learn how these two disciplines support one another with a closer look at the Museum's art and artists and a behind-the-scenes tour.

Session 2
November 19
Morning:
Earth Watch 2—Earth and Sky
Students will study clues to discover the abiotic forces of earth processes and the weather.

Afternoon:
Art and Science 2—Drawing from Nature
Using live and mounted specimens students will make scientific drawings in a field journal that they will keep for future records of species in the field. A Museum artist will review the work.


Spring Semester
Session 1
January 14
Morning:
Park Investigator 1-Look Low and Spy High
Join a Museum naturalist for an eye-opening outdoor study.

Afternoon:
Things Elemental 1—It Matters
Explore the properties of matter and get cozy with atoms, molecules and the periodic table.

Session 2
April 14
Morning:
Park Investigator 2—Nature's Palette
Hit the trail in Balboa Park to discover color and form in nature.

Afternoon:
Things Elemental 2—Atomic Bonds
Consider atomic structure, chemical bonds, and how to distinguish between chemical and physical changes.
