One of San Diego's truly great public spaces, the atrium stands four stories tall and is lit by natural light. The center of the Museum, the atrium provides access to all internal galleries, the theater, the Museum Store, and the Environmental Science Education Center. At 5000 square feet, the atrium can accommodate 275 for a seated dinner and up to 500 for cocktails. If the additional second-story mezzanine space is used, dinner seating can increase to 350, cocktails to 800.
