Medicago sativa Medicago sativa or Alfalfa is a member of the Fabaceae or pea family, which is native to Eurasia but is now naturalized throughout much of the U.S. Alfalfa is a perennial plant found in agricultural areas and disturbed habitats, such as roadsides or vacant lots. Flowers are often purple but can vary in color. The Alfalfa butterfly uses plants in the genera Medicago, Trifolium, and Lupinus as host species. Introduction to Valentien Collection |
