An important function of a biodiversity research center must be the dissemination of information its researchers have compiled about the region they study—both to the scientific community and to the public which it serves.

For this reason the BRCC is committed to making its specimen databases available online. A first step was taken in February 2000 when the Center's database of botanical type specimens became searchable on this website. The collections of other departments will follow.
