Southern
California is a rapidly urbanizing area of the Nation and residential
development projects (both new construction and redevelopment)
typically result in excavations. In many cases the excavations
temporarily expose ancient sedimentary rock units and their
contained paleontological resources.
Large residential developments often involve the cutting
of millions of cubic yards of sedimentary rocks and PaleoServices
staff have extensive experience in monitoring these large
scale grading activities for unearthed fossil remains. Many
redevelopment projects have a small geographic footprint
but their excavations often extend to greater depths (i.e.,
deeper buried strata). PaleoServices field paleontologists
are familiar with the unique demands of such "vertical" grading
jobs and have over 200 years of cumulative experience in
paleontological resource mitigation with many San Diego,
Orange, Riverside and Imperial counties residential
developers. |
