Negative
impacts to paleontological resources occur when construction
activities temporarily expose and then destroy buried fossil
remains.
Mitigation of such negative impacts generally consists of
a comprehensive program including excavation monitoring,
fossil salvage, preparation, curation, storage, and final
report preparation.
PaleoServices staff has extensive
experience in conducting complete mitigation programs and
has salvaged thousands of important fossils from construction
projects throughout Southern California. This mitigation
work has been carried out since 1980 without any injuries
to personnel or delays to construction schedules, and has
resulted in significant contributions to the understanding
of the biological and geological history of our region. In
addition, our many successful mitigation programs have produced
a large and professionally curated collection of regional
fossils that are, and will continue to be, available for
countless generations to come. |
