Ends of the Earth: From Polar Bears to Penguins

Our polar regions are icy, mysterious, and as different as polar bears and penguins.
Discover the fascinating facts about these frozen expanses at Ends of the Earth: From Polar Bears to Penguins, San Diego Natural History Museum’s newest and coolest exhibition, May 14, 2011–January 9, 2012.

Travel from one end of our globe to the other to explore the fascinating (and cold!) worlds of the Arctic and Antarctic. Explore the unique nature of the Earth’s polar regions, the current science being undertaken there, and learn about these regions as indicators of climate change on our planet.

To learn about the La Jolla-based research program that's working to understand Antarctic ecosystems, visit Working on Thin Ice: 25 Years of Research in Antarctica. Striking photographs of Antarctic wildlife and landscapes taken by scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are on exhibit through September, 2012.
